Dear fellow Malaysians in the country and abroad, we would like to wish everyone of you a 53rd Selamat Hari Kemerdekaan!

The above picture was shot from Jerejak island and everything were real, no composite thingy here and I tried playing a bit with the color that I have never tried in my usual work, hope everyone likes it.

To cut things short, I really love Malaysia. There are a lot of things from it that I love and I’m proud to be a Malaysian too. This is where I get all my true friends and where I call, true home. Unfortunately, sometimes, a small group of people in the country create little disasters that upset a lot of people here and there and they are always being amplified with the ‘natural help’ of the local media. This is the thing that I really don’t like, they are very much like noise that held the country from moving forward literally. Hope that in coming years, things would improve and Malaysia would grow to be a even better country and home for all Malaysians. For those who are not working, hope you’d enjoy the day off with your beloved family celebrating the national day.

Dear readers and visitors, if you are a loyal reader of this blog, I would like to apologize for the ‘inactive’ atmosphere that took place in the past few weeks, I must admit I was a bad blogger but I promise to put a stop to this very soon! Next, you will expect to see more personal posts of what is inside my mind and heart and of course, many more of my recent work and what I do Don’t you think that it’s weird to read a human being’s blog but that human is not sounding like one? hehe.. I would like to thank friends in my Facebook who gave me their inputs about whether they’d be interest to read something personal about me in the blog that in turn gave me this idea Thank you!

For the past few weeks, I am planning for a change and announcement that will be revealed on September, I’m trying my very best to make it happen and this is a time consuming process for me as I am the only one taking care of every single thing: meeting people & vendors, finishing photos, travel for shooting, and making decisions be it a small decision or big ones. But, I’m not complaining though, this is certainly a great new adventure in a new chapter of my life and I enjoy what I do right now as a photographer. I assure that the September announcement and change will be an exciting ones to literally everyone!

I plan to post this up last month but was ‘consumed’ by work, sorry about that. Have you heard of ‘Thirty Two At The Mansion‘ or the restaurant better known as the ‘Mansion 32‘ in Penang? If you have not heard of this place, it’s located just opposite the new Lexus showroom(near E&O hotel). I always wanted to visit this place, matter fact, it’s my second time visiting this restaurant after seeing so much great shots taken by fellow photographers. Almost one year ago, I was here, on the position of assistant photographer, holding studio flash/reflector for a guest photographer hired by the bridal house. That time, the beautiful scene around this restaurant and the fragrant of the food attracted me deeply! The restaurant remained great but a lot had changed in my life and I’m glad I made the change.

This round, Irene, James & I, we want something indoor and glamorous. And so, we decided to pick on this location and get the gown & coat from Sol Cover. In case you’d want to know, photo shooting is available by appointment at ‘Mansion 32‘ after you bought a food voucher from them You can also hold your wedding banquet here too. So, back to this shoot. This marks the first collaboration of Milan Teh Studio with Sol Cover for couple that I shoot. Before this, all my clients had their clothes ready for me. That’s a good case for me as before this, I imagined that it would be a really tedious process to engage gown shops or bridal shop for gown rental but our first experience with Sol Cover turned other wise. To make things short, it’s like this for gown rental:

1) Make appointment. Visit Sol Cover, take measurement & select gown/coat.
2) Before shooting day, try altered gown (lots of brides are on a diet marathon before pre-wedding shoot!).
3) Collect clothes. Return clothes.

If you may asked, the reason we choose Sol Cover because we are alike ie: based in Penang. All their gowns, designers, tailors are all under one roof in Penang. So, our clients would have no hassle engaging their service especially when the shoot and where they live are Penang based. Therefore, all your attire needs could be fulfilled here. Furthermore, if you have a specific look/theme you’d like to have for your shoot, let us know! We have Joan, which is our professional makeup artist and image consultant, she could help out on your gown selection day to help you pick the best that suit what you love and some matching accessories. The makeup and hairstyling for Irene on this shoot is all done by Joan.

This wedding has been a very special one to me personally especially the very moving and heart felt speeches one after another, they made my eyes teary on the spot and even when I’m culling the shots to be posted here this afternoon. All these are made possible by Jocelyn and Joe because they led-and-let me to be part of their special day.  I’m really glad that I’m part of their wedding and the energetic crowd and children who had fun at the dance floor are simply amazing!

Well, I think I’m not really good in telling stories in English but I’ll try to improve! Jocelyn, Joe, if you are reading this, I wanted to thank both of you here for having faith in me for capturing your special day at Penang. I was emotionally involved and had every minute of fun even that I’m shooting. Have a safe trip back!

Jocelyn has been very very kind. She get out from her chair like every 10 minutes in the middle of the makeup session and keep on digging every little thing she could thought of to let me shoot cause she fear that I might feel bored! She even told Joe to brush the ring so that I could have a shiny one. She’s a lovely bride every photographer would love!

See the yellow ‘thingy’? It’s a garter for the night’s garter ceremony! Which is my first time shooting it.

Isn’t that all the details lovely? Jocelyn is the master mind for them.

Under the witness of the Goddess of Mercy, Joe has thoughtfully proposed to Jocelyn few years back at Kek Lok Si, Penang.

I love this cake. They are so ‘theme based’ and lovely. Most important of all, it’s edible! ;p

Jocelyn was explaining to the guests why there’s a saying in the Hokkien language to tell the elderly to dry their tea cup during the tea ceremony. Something like this, ‘teh lim da da, sin niao ghia sai meh ni zhoh ba ba ma ma.‘ LOL. If you’re not a Chinese speaking person, you might need a translator.

Family and friends, from as far as the US, India, Indonesia, and Scotland all in one place for one special occasion.

Well as the title suggests, this series was shot one year ago. At that moment, despite that I get to shoot subject that ranges from flowers, bugs, children & babies, ladies, brides & grooms, I have never really shot a full series of male portraiture. And so, I called up a high school friend of mine and decided to get myself a series of photos which I have not tried before. We then scout around and stopped near Island Plaza area in Penang, the Tsunami affected area which there are a lot of new houses now as the sun is located just nicely during late noon.

The shoot took about one and a half hours , I’m blessed to have the right kind of sun light and sky that I wanted on the day of this shoot. I find that shooting photos for my ownself is a decent pleasure, I get to try anything I wanted to and it’s part of a process I improve my skills and arts further during my free time.

I get to know Katrina & Darren through Red Knot and they get many of their wedding arrangements done by Red Knot and it’s associates.

Shooting actual days are fun especially at the time they play ‘these games’, most of the time I just couldn’t stop laughing out loud behind the camera & shooting at the same time. But sometimes, it can be a little fearsome too. Cause, every time when I looked back at these game photos of what I’ve shot and what other photographers have shot, they give me goose bumps and made me wonder and imagine what’s worse that awaits me on my wedding day in the future… gosh~

The groom really don’t like the taste of mustard and I wonder if any of you remember the lady holding the mustard? She’s Kenix, I shot her wedding last year, Penang is such a small place!

Well, here come the warriors!

This poor fella over here has been hand picked by the girls to ‘ribena-feed’ the groom. The feeding part is a pain to watch. So… I left it out and let your imagination to run wild. hehe~

There are always kids around wedding dinner and I really love shooting them especially those that is not camera shy. Look at the boy below, his parents told him to smile for me but he gave me the first expression for about 15seconds and then only gave me his smile. He’s really cute.

I end this series with about 10 kids rocking on the stage.

Susan and Gim Eng are really nice to bring me, Yit Pong and Jean to places that they had already went several times before without complaining, waiting for us to stop by one corner and another shooting scenery. So, the first day actually ended up like a leisure shooting for the 3 of us, lol~ not forgetting, also looking for suitable location for the pre-wedding shoot on the next day. Let me guide all of you down these favorite shots of mine for what had happened…

The first location of our choice is the beach as Susan loves the blue sky and sea

Just before we headed out to the hot sun, an idea came in a sudden when we saw the parachutes and thought that it could be an interesting ‘prop‘. So the idea starts with Gim Eng flying up to show his love to Susan! Initially Susan wanted to join together with him but unfortunately wearing skirt + para-sailing doesn’t seem appropriate. So, Susan will just wait for her prince to land with hand bouquet in his hand.

Gim Eng is such a sweet hubby. He took this challenge although he is a little scared with the height air-borne above the sea.

Next, we head back to the hotel, took lunch and shot around the hotel area.

After the sun has set, I’ve suggested to play around a few more shots with artificial lighting with my camera flashes. They are indeed the most time consuming part and I’m happy that Susan and Gim Eng are willing try new things out & bear with me for this night session.

As a conclusion, I love this shoot. There were a lot of laughter and it’s very enjoyable, I don’t feel like I’m out for work at all. I’d have to thank Yit Pong & Jean big time for helping me to carry my stuffs and hold the flashes. Without them, I might have passed out in the middle of the shoot. hehe. And, a huge THANK YOU to Susan & Gim Eng for having me to shoot their pre-wedding photographs at Langkawi and their nice arrangements during our stay there. Hope that everyone enjoyed the shots posted here as much as I enjoyed the 3 days trip!
